Bollywood dance
is a mixture of many styles of dance from a vast area. It is inspired
by and deeply rooted in the classical styles from India of Bharatanatyam
and Kathak. Bollywood dance blends the Indian Folk dance Bhangra,
with movement from Belly Dancing and many other styles. Giving it
even more dimension it is mixed with ideas and elements from western
popular styles including: Modern, Jazz, and Hip Hop dancing. The
international appeal of Bollywood dancing is something that has
been many decades in the making. Originally it was found only in
places that had a significant consumption of Indian films such as
the former Soviet Union and the Middle East. Recently it started
to become chic in Europe and today it is rising in popularity in
the US and Canada. A great breakthrough occurred for this dance
style when it was featured last year on the network television show
“So You Think You Can Dance.”
